Training has resumed for all athletes from 7 years upwards at the track on the baltimore road from 7pm-8pm Monday and wednesday nights.

All Raffel tickets need to be back this coming wednesday the 16th of December at latest which is also the last day of training for juvenille athletes but training will be-commence Monday the 11th of January Happy Christmas and a bright new year to all.

The Skibbereen Athletics Club Christmas raffle tickets are now available from the coaches and athletes. Tickets are €2 each or 3 for €5, please support. Skibbereen Athletics club traveled to Kilbeggan racecourse, Co.Westmeath Sunday the 22nd of November for the Even age All Ireland cross country championship where Aishling Murphy finished 34th in the girls u18 in the All Ireland finals helping Cork to a 4th place in the inter county. Sean McCarthy Finished 72nd in the boys u16 to help Cork finish 7th in the inter county. Ellen McCarthy finished 110th in the girls u12.

Kate McCarthy finished 82nd in the girls under 16 to help the Cork team finish 7th.

Skibbereen Athletics Club also travelled to the Even age All Ireland cross country championship where In the u9 Boys Andrew Collins finished 1st, Andrew Whelton 7th, Alex Maguire 11th and Cathrach Crowley 26th , which won gold team prize and won gold with Cork team

in the u9 Girls Triona Murphy finished 18th and won a silver medal with Cork . In the u11 Girls, Ellen McCarthy finished 5th which won her a silver medal with the Cork team. Amelia Cooper also competed ran very well.

In the u11 Boys, Darragh Crowley ran a great race but just outside medals. In the u13 Girls, Lorraine Barry also ran well but just outside medals. In the u13 Boys David Whelton finished 7th and won a gold medal with the Cork team. In the u15 Girls Sarah Harte finished 10th and won a bronze medal with the  Cork team. In the u15 Boys Sean O’ Donovan, finished 24th and won a silver medal with the Cork the team.

Skibbereen Athletic Club travelled to Tralee on Sunday last to compete in juvenile Munster ‘A’ cross-country championships in very wet and muddy conditions. In girls’ under 19, Ashling Murphy ran a super race to claim third position, securing a place in the Munster team in All-Ireland cross-country. In girls’ under 15, Kate McCarthy ran well to claim twelfth position and a Munster medal.

Sean Mc­Carthy competed in boys’ under 13 and did very well to finish in eleventh position, for which he claimed a Munster medal, and both himself and Kate McCarthy will represent Munster also in All-Ireland. Aideen Bohane, Ellen McCarthy and Sean O’Donovan also competed, but were just outside the medal placings.

The West Cork cross country championship were held in Clonakilty on Sunday last in very muddy conditions. Kate McCarthy ran very well to claim gold in girls under 16 race. Sean McCarthy also had a gold in boys under 14 and along with his team mates of David Whelton 5th place. Sean O'Donovan 6th place and Alan Connolly 7th place clamed the Gold team prize.

The boys under 10 team of Andrew Whelton, Alex Maguire, Danny Coakley and Catrach Crowley claim bronze team prize. Others who braved the conditions but were just outside the medals were Fiona Murphy and Lisa Harte in girls under 10. Ellen McCarthy, Rachael, Rachael Whelton & Siobhan Hayes in the girls under 12 and Darragh Crowley in the boys under 12.

A big mention has to be given to Stephen O'Mahony and John McCarthy who Ran the Dublin City marathon on the bank holiday weekend . Stephen ran a time of only 3 hours and 7 minutes and John in 3 hours and 45 minutes! Finally Subscriptions for 2010 are Due for anyone who hasnt paid up yet.

The West Cork Juvenille amd Senior county Cross country will take place this Sunday in Clonakilty Showgrounds. The West Cork Juvenille championships will start at 12 noon for ages u-12 to u16 for boys and girls. Races will be run off quickly, so get there early, as the Cork county Senior cross country will start at 1pm.

The Athletics club travelled to the Munster Championship cross country in Dungarven last Sunday and all athletes performed very well. In the under-10 girls, Aideen Bohane won a individual medal, after finishing in 12th place and also won a second team place with the Cork team. Aishling Murphy also won a individual medal in the under-18 girls, Which gained her a place on the Munster team for the All Irelands.

Kate Murphy finished 15th in the girls under-16 and was a member of the Cork team which was placed second. Sean McCarthy competed in the boys under-14 and was placed 26th, which gained him a Bronze medal with the Cork team. His club mates of David Whelton, Alan Connolly, Sean O'Donovan and Patrick Bohane were the 8th placed team in Munster. Ellen McCarthy  ran in the girls under-12 and completed very well with a possibility of a place on the Cork team.

The good weather at Kileagh last Sunday at the Cork county under-23 and juvenille cross country was only bettered by the great running including James McCarthy and John Collins, who finished 10th and 17th, respectively to help win a gold medal for their college team C.I.T. Sean O'Donovan had a good race in the under-15 boys. Kate McCarthy finished 5th in the girls u15, which won her a medal, and her teammate Orla O'Regan was close behind but missed out on a medal.

The boys under 13 team with Sean McCarthy in 5th place, with a individual medal also compramised of David Whelton, Patrick Bohane and and Liam Bohane. Lauren Buckley also had a good race in the girls under-13 race in a very tough field. There was great races by Barry Collins and Darragh Crowley in the boys under-11 race, While Skibbereen AC had a massive 7 athletes in the girls under-11 race, Including Ellen McCarthy,Aideen Bohane, Rachel Whelton, Siobhan Hayes, Aoibhinn Keating (Pictured below) , Amelia Cooper and Francis Cadogen.

The Boys under-9 team included Andrew Collins, Andrew Whelton, Alex Maguire and Cathrach Crowley. Triona Murphy did well in the girls under-9 in a very big field of athletes.

This weekend is the Cork county Juvenille cross country will take place in Carrignavar this Sunday and many skibbereen athletes will take part with a bus departing from Skibbereen playground at 10.30am Sunday morning and best of luck to all athletes involved. Regristration night will take place on Monday the 12th and Wednesday 14th of October at the Clubhouse on Baltimore Road Skibbereen between 7-8.30pm
